Man City star listed as a Chelsea player in hilarious megastore gaffe

Chelsea accidentally announced the signing of Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy via the megastore yesterday.

Mendy has enjoyed a successful spell at the Etihad, winning two Premier League titles, but it now appears as though he’ll be embarking on pastures green, with the Frenchman set to sign for Chelsea.

At least, you’d have thought that was the case if you logged onto the Chelsea megastore for the Blues’ 2021/22 kit launch, with Mendy being listed as a player that you could print on the back of your shirt.

It’s not entirely clear whose mistake this was, nor how on Earth it happened, but rest assured, City fans, Mendy is not on his way to Stamford Bridge – at least there is currently no suggestion of that being the case.

This whole thing would be easily explained if Man City and Chelsea had the same kit manufacturer, with the West London giants’ megastore being stocked by Nike – but City’s shirts are made by Puma.

Someone’s just had a very bad day at the office here…
