However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining two charges, one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

A retrial for these two charges has been scheduled for the 26th of June.

The professional footballer was on trial alongside his friend, Louis Saha Matturie who was found not guilty on three counts of rape.

The two men were accused by 13 women of multiple sexual offences at the player’s flat in Manchester.

The verdict comes over two years after Mendy was first arrested in November 2020.

“The prosecution has made a decision. We have made a decision today, which is to proceed on these counts in two separate trials and we seek today a provisional case management.” Said prosecutor, Matthew Conway.

Manchester City then released a statement shortly after the verdict was announced.

“Given there are open matters related to this case, the club is not in a position to comment further at this time.”
