In the first play of the game between the Springboks and Los Pumas at Ellis Park on Saturday, South African number nine Grant Williams had to go off after getting knocked out from a block down.
People all have different opinions on this matter did the Irish referee make the right call? We think he did, it was a ‘rugby incident’ but here are some of the strong views of the others online.

It takes Brace over 10 seconds to do anything. And the first thing he does is award Argentina a penalty, not stop the game to allow Williams to get urgent medical attention.
I would say it's amateur, but there are amateur referees who would've handled it far better. https://t.co/8Jj2YdpgPT— Dylan Jack (@dylmjack) July 29, 2023
Cool. So if a tackler makes contact with the ball before spear tackling a player, it's all good? https://t.co/hhn9ewtKYD

Imagine for a second this was Eben Etzebeth flying through the air into Johnny Sexton, knocking him out in the process! Red card, lengthy ban and he would miss the World Cup. Multiple of articles about how dirty SA rugby players are and the like! The laws and sanction’s… https://t.co/339dds84DZ

The rights and wrongs of challenge etc doesn’t worry us as much as the fact that play is allowed to continue with a player unconscious and prone on the field.

I’m old enough to remember when they gave red cards for those. But hey… the game is safer now I guess.#RSAvARG pic.twitter.com/pq530wavTV

Can someone please tell me how on earth this wasn't a red card?

A lot of people saying this is a red card, it’s not as he charges the ball down first before the contact and Andrew Brace was correct that it’s a rugby incident pic.twitter.com/564MFnSs4m

The rugby is really kicking off now, with the warm up matches for the World Cup set to get under way next weekend. It’s and exciting time if your a rugby supporter. We can’t wait for the action, who’d you money on to win the World Cup?
It’s only fine when it suits the big boys at the top of world rugby. I have never seen such inconsistencies from any sporting body. Will Carling was right when he said rugby was run by old farts. Wake up and smell the coffee grand dads
The inconsistancy application of rules are not rules
Reckless and dangerous should settle the argument regarding the potential career ending incident on Grant Williams. The referee further aggravated the horrible incident by allowing the game to continue before awarding a penalty to Argentina and should be held accountable for his lack of control over the unfortunate occurrence.
