Mesut Ozil’s title as Europe’s leading assister has been taken by Borussia Dortmund’s Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Ozil was statistically the best assist provider with 16 assists this season, laying up a teammate for a goal every 188 minutes but the Armenia skipper has been involved in at least one goal in eight of BVB’s last nine games and has provided 17 assists so far this season.
The 27-year-old netted Dortmund’s crucial second goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend, before he set up Ilkay Gündogan to put the seal on a 3-1 victory.
