Messi inspires Argentina to a 2-0 win over Mexico

Argentina finally got their first win of the tournament after beating Mexico 2-0 on Saturday night.

The pressure was on Lionel Messi and his Argentinian teammates going into the fixture. After a shocking loss to Saudi Arabia earlier in the week, a loss to Mexico would’ve put them on an early flight home.

Things were not looking good after a very poor first half from the Argentinians, continuing the lacklustre performance that we saw against Saudi Arabia.

But in the 64th minute, it was that man Messi who stepped up to the plate, arrowing a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The win was all but secured when substitute Enzo Fernández, shimmied onto his right foot and curled a peach into the top corner.

Argentina is not out of the woods yet, they still must get a result against Poland in the final group game if they want to progress to the knockout stages.

This won’t be an easy task, Poland brushed Saudi Arabia aside earlier in the day thanks to a Lewandowski goal.
