Mason Greenwood update: Greater Manchester Police issue new statement

Greater Manchester Police have issued a new statement on the situation surrounding Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of rape and assault following allegations from his girlfriend Harriet Robson, which were made via her Instagram page.

The England international was subsequently told to stay away from the training ground by Manchester United, but the club are understood to have stopped short of suspending him.

Man United will no doubt be keeping a close eye on GMP’s investigation into the nature of Greenwood’s alleged wrongdoing, with the force issuing an update on Monday afternoon:

“Detectives have been granted additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who is being held on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman. The suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon and remains in custody.”

Greenwood is yet to be charged by the police, but the extra time they have been granted for questioning will help determine whether any charges are necessary at this time.

Further updates are expected in due course.
