Doubts emerge over Liverpool future of key player, Jurgen Klopp on collision course with owners

According to a shock report by The Athletic, doubts have emerged over the Liverpool future of captain Jordan Henderson.

Henderson’s influence has been crucial for Liverpool over their most successful period since the turn of the millenium.

The 31-year-old matched Steven Gerrard’s greatest achievement as Liverpool captain by winning the Champions League, before going one step further and winning the Premier League.

His name is forever written into the history books at Anfield, but could his chapter soon be coming to an end?

The Athletic report that, with Henderson having just two years left to run on his contract, Liverpool do not see agreeing an extension to that deal as a priority.

Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool future is, remarkably, in doubt

There is a suggestion that Liverpool’s owners, FSG, do not want too many old players within the squad, with Henderson’s new contract being put on the back-burner.

It’s claimed that Jurgen Klopp wants Henderson to be handed a new contract, but his bosses are more focused on refreshing the squad to prepare for the years to come.

As a result, Liverpool have been left in a situation where their captain, and one of their most influential players, may well walk out the door.

It’s Gini Wijnaldum all over again, but in this instance Liverpool wouldn’t just be losing a top-class midfielder, but a hugely important figure in the dressing room.
