A Mexican politician is trying to get Lionel Messi banned from entering their country after a ‘disrespectful’ dressing room incident.

There was outrage after Argentina’s group victory over Mexico when footage emerged of Messi ‘flicking’ Andres Guardado’s jersey in the dressing room. The footage riled up Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez, who threatened the Argentine on social media but has since apologised for his actions.

Now a Mexican politician, Maria Clemente Garcia Moreno, has spoken out over disgust for Messi’s “lack of respect.” The politician wants to take it a step further and called for a ‘persona non grata’ against the superstar.

Moreno has ‘respectfully urged’ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ban Messi from entering Mexico.

“The Chamber of Deputies of the Honorable Congress of the Union respectfully urges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue the corresponding Declaration in order to declare persona non grata within of the territory of the United Mexican States to the citizen of Argentine and Spanish nationality, Lionel Andres Messi Cuccitini, due to his manifest contempt and lack of respect towards Mexico during the World Cup of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on Saturday, November 26, 2022,” the document reads.

When originally asked about the allegations that he ‘disrespected’ Mexico, Messi replied by saying “Anyone who knows me knows that I never disrespect anyone.”

Do you think this is a touch too far from the Mexican politician?
