Wayne Rooney doubles down on greatest of all-time stance

Wayne Rooney took to Twitter to tell his followers that ‘nothing has changed’ and Lionel Messi is still the greatest football player of all time.

Even though Rooney has played with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United, the former England striker has always insisted that Lionel Messi is the greater player. Perhaps this is why there has always been tension between the pair – from the infamous incident between the two players at the 2006 World Cup, and most recently when Ronaldo took several shots at Rooney during his interview with Piers Morgan.

Rooney once again reiterated his stance on the greatest of all-time debate this week when he took to Twitter to address his followers. The Premier League legend retweeted an old tweet from 2012, which read “Messi is a joke. For me the best ever”, and captioned it: “Nothing has changed” accompanied by a goat emoji.

The tweet is likely to ruffle a few feathers in the Ronaldo camp, however, the Argentine’s performances at this World Cup, as well as the lack of performances by Ronaldo, makes it remarkably difficult to argue with Rooney.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina are waiting for either France or Morocco in the final of the 2022 World Cup, with Messi hoping to further strengthen his claim to the greatest of all-time throne.
