Cristiano Ronaldo was filmed kicking the captain’s armband after Portugal’s defeat to Belgium last night, which saw them eliminated from Euro 2020.
Ronaldo is one of the game’s great competitors, meaning defeat is more difficult for him to stomach than it is for others.
Time and time again we’ve seen the Juventus forward kick-off at the full-time whistle if his side haven’t been able to get the win – it’s the same for both club and country.
Ronaldo has previous for Portugal when it comes to throwing full-time strops, the most recent of which, before last night, came after a 2-2 draw with Serbia.
Having been convinced that his injury time effort crossed the goal line (which it clearly did), Ronaldo walked off the pitch before throwing the captain’s armband to the ground.

The gesture was seen as disrespectful by some, and understandably so. Captaining your country is a great privilege, so Ronaldo discarding the armband was not a particularly good look.
Yet, after Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2020 last night, he’s done it again. This time, dropping it on the floor and kicking it, with a member of the Portugal staff picking it up and walking off alongside him.
Can he not find something else to throw?
