There was an unbelievable moment of respect in Denmark v Belgium this evening, with the whole stadium applauding Christian Eriksen in the 10th minute of the contest.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland. He was fortunate to escape the field with his life, and is thankfully now out of the woods.

The scenes that unfolded before the world on Saturday have rocked the sport, with friends and foe pulling together in support of the Inter Milan midfielder.

Ahead of kick-off, a minute’s applause was arranged, with whichever team that was in possession in the 10th minute to kick the ball out of play to instigate the moment of respect.

Right on cue, play was stopped and the clapping began. Fans, players, officials, everyone watching on at home, showed their support for Eriksen, wishing him both health and strength.

Though what happened to him was a tragedy, the way that football has reacted to it is something to take pride in.
