UFC fighter charged with double attempted murder of his sisters

UFC fighter Irwin Rivera has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his two sisters.

The bantamweight was most recently fighting in September for the UFC during his split decision loss to Andre Ewell. The American fighter is now being held in a mental health facility in Florida.

ESPNMMA report that two women were found stabbed in the Boynton Beach area of Florida, one aged 22 and the other 33. They also report that one in stable condition with the other woman in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Thursday the 7th of January with fight Irwin RIvera fleeing the scene of the crime and when caught by the police at 7am the next day he reportedly said “I killed my sisters.”. Rivera told police that he believed he had killed his sisters and he did it because it was his purpose, told to him by a “higher power.”

The UFC said in a statement that it is investigating the “extremely troubling” situation and would not be offering Rivera a fight at this time.

PunditArena report that his sister Lezlye Rivera posted a message on her Facebook account to “clear the air” and insisted that herself and her family were in full support of their brother.

“All we wish is for him to get the professional mental help he so desperately needs. Unfortunately his mental stage was worse than we could have imagined and before we could help him he completely broke.”
