Tyson Fury reveals his hope for Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Tyson Fury has revealed that he wants Anthony Joshua to triumph over Oleksandr Usyk in their proposed rematch.

Fury and Joshua looked to be on a collision course prior to the Gypsy King being ordered into a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder by an American court.

Joshua subsequently accepted the challenge of WBO mandatory Oleksandr Usyk, who gave him a lesson in September and took all of his belts.

AJ is now expected to fight Usyk again later in the year, perhaps once the conflict in Ukraine has (hopefully) settled down.

Considering the gulf in quality on display in their first bout, not many hold high hopes for Joshua in the rematch – but Fury is keeping his fingers crossed that he triumphs.

Quoted by talkSPORT, Fury revealed his hope that Joshua wins, else the fight between them will never happen:

“I really would have loved to have [had the] fight with Anthony Joshua. I really hope he can beat Oleksandr Usyk, I really do,” Fury explained.”

“People will say ‘oh no, you don’t really mean that,’ but I really do mean it because that would be an amazing showdown back at Wembley or wherever it might be.”

“He’s got to win this fight because if he loses again, then that fight is gone. But hopefully, he wins it.”

Irrespective of the result of the second fight between Joshua and Usyk, we hope that he and Fury could still arrange something later down the line.

British boxing fans have been longing for this fight to materialise – it would be a tragedy if it never did.
