Thomas Tuchel had to sober up before his first meeting with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, according to the Telegraph.
The report notes that, as you’d expect, Tuchel was partying long into the night in Porto after Chelsea defeated Manchester City to win the Champions League.
Gin and tonic was his drink of choice, with Marina Granovskaia having informed the absolutely steaming German at 4:30am that he’d be meeting Abramovich for the first time in the morning.
Commendably, instead of cutting the night short and going to bed, Tuchel merely swapped to soft drinks and stayed out until around 6am before finally getting a single hour’s sleep.
After hour powernap, Tuchel met Abramovich in the morning for the first time since taking the reins in January. We can only imagine how rotten he felt.
Abramovich wouldn’t have cared much about the stench of booze radiating off Tuchel, nor the heavy bags under his eyes. After all, Chelsea were European champions.
It’s a testament to Tuchel’s character that he feared not about the proposition of a meeting with one of football’s most cutthroat owners while grossly hungover.
It was time to party – not worry about tomorrow’s problems!
