Neil Lennon resigns as Celtic boss

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has resigned with from his position at the club as the Hoops lay 18 points adrift of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership report the BBC.

The Northern Ireland man enjoyed huge success as a player and had a great spell in charge as manager the first time around but unfortunately for the former midfielder his second spell has been far more disappointing.

Lennon took charge of the Scottish giants for a second time in February of 2019 when Brendan Rodgers left and led the club to two titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup.

Celtic currently trail their bitter city rivals Rangers by 18 points in the league as Steven Gerrard’s men look set to win the league and a bitter defeat to Ross County on Sunday was the last straw for Lennon.

Assistant manager John Kennedy will take interim charge of the team until a suitable replacement is found for Lennon.

In an official statement on Celtic’s website Lennon said: “We have experienced a difficult season due to so many factors and, of course, it is very frustrating and disappointing that we have not been able to hit the same heights as we did previously,”

“I have worked as hard as ever to try and turn things around, but unfortunately we have not managed to get the kind of run going that we have needed.

“I have always given my best to the club and have been proud to deliver silverware to the Celtic supporters. The club will always be part of me. I will always be a Celtic supporter myself and I will always want the best for Celtic.”
