Karim Benzema has put to bed any rumours that he could rejoin Didier Deschamps and the France squad for the final.
The 2022 Balon d’Or winner suffered an injury just one week before France’s opening World Cup game with Australia. This immediately ruled him out for the rest of the tournament, depriving his nation of the worlds current best player.
His was just another name to add to the list for Les Bleus, their two starting midfielders, Paul Pogba and Ngolo Kante had both been ruled out through injury while playing for their prospective clubs.
It’s a credit to the depth of the squad that you would hardly know that they’re missing. France has been extremely impressive so far and now currently preparing for a World Cup final against Argentina on Sunday.
Despite his injury, Benzema has been linked with a return to the squad, something which he not happy about.
The Real Madrid striker took to Instagram to shut down these rumours. He posted a stern selfie, with the caption reading, ‘I’m not interested’.

France look they will be fine without another striker, both Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe have been emphatic in front of goal.
At this stage they will be hoping for a centre-back. Their squad has suffered greatly from a virus and with their defenders getting the brunt of the illness.
Dayot Upamecano, Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate are all struggling to overcome the sickness.
