Gary Neville GOES IN on referee after England loss “an absolute disgrace”

Gary Neville has criticised referee Wilton Sampaio, calling him a ‘disgrace’ after England’s 2-1 loss.

England was launched out of the tournament on Saturday evening after losing 2-1 to France. England had a late opportunity to level the score when they were awarded a second penalty, but Harry Kane skied it over the crossbar.

But the English players can walk away feeling slightly grieved by some of the decisions. Harry Maguire criticised Sampaio in his post-match interview and now Neville has also gone in on the referee.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Neville labelled the Brazilian as ‘a joke’.

Even though two penalties were given to England, VAR awarded the second, and the referee ignored countless fouls, specifically on Bukayo Saka. This isn’t the first time we’ve bared witness to some bad officiating at the tournament, Argentina’s win over the Netherlands ended with a record-breaking 18-yellow cards.

What do you think of the overall officiating at this tournament so far?
