Gary Neville was denied media accreditation for Nottingham Forest’s final Premier League game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.

Sky Sports initially confirmed that Neville would co-commentate live from the City Ground but he has been denied accreditation amid fears of a hostile reception from the fans.

Neville wrote on Instagram that it was “disappointing” to see that a great club like Nottingham Forest have been reduced to making such a decision.

Forest have formally complained to Sky about Neville, and informed that the broadcaster won’t be granted press access to the Champions League-decider over the weekend.

The club felt that Neville would receive a negative reaction from the crowd and have therefore requested Sky make a change to their commentary team.

Neville criticised Evangelos Marinakis after the Forest owner stormed onto the pitch following the side’s recent draw with Leicester City, where he was seen in an animated discussion with Nuno Espirito Santo.

While the Premier League have been made aware of the situation, Forest have every right to decide who does and doesn’t come onto their property.

There is a feeling among the fans that Neville has a grudge against Forest and has been overly critical of them as they chase the Champions League spot.

Forest are currently seventh in the league, one point behind Chelsea, who currently occupy the final qualification spot.
