The former England and Wasps out-half Danny Cipriani was speaking on the Official Rugby World Cup 2023 podcast and quoted by balls.ie he outlined exactly why he thinks Ireland won’t win the Rugby World Cup.

“Obviously I think Ireland are great but I think that when it comes down to it, Ireland do have the best system and shapes… If I’m brutally honest I don’t think they have the best decision-makers in the world,”
“If the final is South Africa vs Ireland, a lot of those pressure moments won’t feel like pressure to those South African boys whereas it will feel like that to those Irish boys. It will be a very different proposition.”
“In term of the technical element, Ireland have it. The way they play, their connectivity as a group on the field,”
“South Africa have something special within them, just how united they are and how much they have been through together. All of the different stories coming together and creating a forceful nation.
“It’s not just the rugby with them, you see Siya (Kolisi), how he’s leading. He’s talking like a politician and uniting everyone.
“He’s not talking like an English politician, he’s talking with truth, love and compassion. It’s not emotionally charged with the fact they’re going to be out of control, the emotion is that they want to do it for each other to a degree which isn’t in other nations as much.
“If Ireland get ahead early on and create the scores that they normally do, it’s going to be interesting. If South Africa start getting a bit of momentum… I’m going to lean with South Africa in this game.”
Rubbish headline. Nonsense. Danny isn’t being cheeky or anti Irish at all, in fact he says he likes Ireland. He’s just being realistic. Ireland haven’t got past the quarterfinals in 9 attempts so far so obviously Ireland have never been close to a RWC final and it would be a new experience and unknown level of pressure. Whereas the Boks have been in 3 finals and won all 3 so they’ve been there and done that. If Irish supporters can’t understand what Danny is saying and are angry at him then they are being pathetic fools.
Agree. Headline does not match what Danny said.
Yes that’s fine, but remember, South Africa were world champions FOUR years ago Ireland have beaten them since then, remember 38-3? AND Ireland are currently No. 1 having beaten the might All Blacks 3 times in a row in their own backyard, not many teams have achieved that, unless I’ve been asleep? So, credit and respect (to all competitors) where its due to the team that have achieved and to those who are trying to emulate a world Cup!
I think its the site just looking for reaction.
I may not totally agree but it is a fair comment.
This is simply clickbait. Not going to be many Irish fans upset as it’s a fair comment. COYBIG
Fair comments from DC, SA have proved themselves as World Champions and Ireland have not, it is up to Ireland to dethrone the champions and prove themselves
