Chelsea struck by another COVID-19 blow ahead of crucial trip to Manchester City

Chelsea have suffered yet another COVID blow ahead of their crucial clash with Manchester City at the Etihad tomorrow.

The Blues have been one of the hardest-hit by the virus in the Premier League, with Thomas Tuchel being dealt more than a few selection headaches through the sheer amount of his players that have been forced into self-isolation.

Two of the most significant absentees, Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante, returned to action for Chelsea as they faced the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening.

However, Chelsea have evidently not been able to prevent further positive cases at Cobham, with Tuchel confirming in his pre-match press conference that Andreas Christensen has tested positive for the virus.

Christensen has been a key figure in Chelsea’s defence over the 12 months that Tuchel has been at the club, but is not a guaranteed starter, especially in games of this magnitude.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, though, they already have Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell and Reece James out injured. They could ill afford any more defensive absentees – and they’ve got one.
