Mason Greenwood could make an unexpected return to international football with Jamacia after the manager’s most recent comments.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Spanish side Getafe after Manchester United announced that he will not play for them again in the summer.

Although Greenwood had the attempted rape and assault charges from January 2022 dropped in February of this year, the outcry from fans and even staff forced the club to loan the player.

It is widely assumed that he will never play for England again but could make a return to the international stage with a surprise new country.

Greenwood is still eligible to play for Jamacia as he has only appeared in one match for the England senior team allowing him to switch allegiances.

According to the new rules, a player is allowed to play for another country as long as they have not made more than three competitive games before turning 21, Greenwood made his only appearance as an 18-year-old.

Jamaica head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has stated that he would be open to the idea.

“I’m not different from all coaches in the world. We would like to have the best talent on our team.” he told the  Jamaica Observer.

“If he gets his former fitness and former levels, then for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica.”
