Wayne Rooney and entire Derby county team to miss FA Cup clash due to COVID-19

According to Sky Sports Wayne Rooney and the entire Derby county squad will miss their FA Cup clash with Chorley FC due to the whole team having to self-isolate following a coronavirus outbreak.

The Guardian reported that a number of first-team players and staff returned positive tests for Covid-19 on Monday January 4th.

Since the outbreak all of Derby’s players and staff have been signed up to get re-tested for COVID-19 on Thursday but the likelihood of any of them being given the green flag for the FA Cu[p clash with Chorley is slim.

The game is scheduled to kick-off on Saturday afternoon at 12.15pm and due to their first team being unavailable Derby are expected to field an entirely new squad made up of their U23 and U18 players.

Academy director Darren Wassall is likely to step in for the absent Rooney as the Championship side will be hoping their underage players can get the job done on National League North outfit.
