Video: Ole defends Edinson Cavani – “He’s not a racist”

Edinson Cavani made a high profile transfer from PSG to Manchester United on a free in October as per Transfermarkt. He has managed to play for the Old Trafford side 9 times in the Premier League, registering 3 goals and 2 assists.

A post on social media landed the 33 year old in hot water with him responding to a congratulatory message sent to him by a friend on Instagram following his winner against Southampton to which he responded with the words “Gracias n******”. He is now banned for 3 games and was given a £100,000 fine. The Uruguayan suffered immediate backlash and promptly deleted the post with an apology posted hastily after.

United manager Ole has now come to the defence of his new striker stating that the player is “Not a racist” and that “His words were taken out of context”. Do you think it’s right for the Norwegian to defend Cavani’s actions?

The Uruguayan has also been ordered to complete face-to-face education after it was deemed his post was insulting, abusive, improper and brought the game into disrepute.
