World Cup favourites Argentina are currently taking on Australia in the World Cup Round of 16 in Qatar, with La Albiceleste currently leading Graham Arnold’s Socceroos 2-0 thanks to a fine effort from Lionel Messi and a Julian Alvarez strike.
Australia started the game well, limiting Argentina to few chances, but a moment of brilliance from Messi when Argentina needed it the most broke the deadlock after half an hour.
The 35-year old played the ball to Alexis Mac Allister on the edge of the box, who fed the ball to Nicolas Otamendi in the area and the centreback laid a pass off to Messi who took a touch and caressed an effort into the bottom left corner.
🗣️ "Messiiiiii! It had to be him!"

The goal was Messi’s 94th for Argentina and his 8th at World Cups and with the form he is currently in at this tournament, we could be seeing plenty more from him as his side hope to win their first World Cup since 1986.
