Video: Lionel Messi checks for players pulse after smacking him to the ground

There was a scene that you’ve never seen before at the Estadio de La Cartuja on Saturday as football icon Lionel Messi received his first ever red card for Barcelona’s first team.

The Barcelona captain could have no complaints really after he swung and arm at an Atletico player sending him crashing to the ground holding his head.

After consulting with VAR the 33-year-old Barca legend was given his marching orders but before he left the pitch the six time ballon d’Or winner did something very bizarre.

After lashing out at the player people on Twitter noticed what looked like the Argentine checking his opponents pulse.

Now, we’re not sure how hard Messi struck the opposition player but obviously he felt it was hard enough to worry that he may have just killed a dude.

Thankfully he wasn’t too badly injured and Messi did eventually leave the field of play and he could now miss the next four domestic matches as a result of his violent conduct.

It was Messi’s first red card in Spanish football since being sent off 15 years ago for Barcelona B against Peña Sport, with the only other red cards of his career both coming for the Argentine national team.
