Aston Villa were on the losing side of a clash with now tied top of the table side Manchester United at Old Trafford with one controversial decision swaying the result of the whole 90 minutes. Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz was following Paul Pogba in the Villa box and after an apparent coming together the French midfielder hit the ground with Michael Oliver and VAR awarding a penalty to United. Bruno Fernandes then stepped up and slotted the ba;; in the bottom left hand corner out of reach of Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez who guessed the right way but wasn’t fast enough.
On closer inspection with more angles it seems like United midfielder Paul Pogba tripped over his own leg with the player kicking his own calf and collapsing to the ground. Douglas was furious with the decision and took to twitter after the game to say
“I see this video, I can’t believe it was a penalty, I always support fairer football, with fewer mistakes, but then I stop and see these types of moves. If we have VAR to help, LET’S start using it CORRECTLY, these mistakes can define the future of clubs!”
He then showed a more zoomed in look at Pogba’s legs coming together with the caption
“This is just to show more clearly !!”
