Tyson Fury has appeared to confirm that he will be fighting Dillian Whyte next… NOT Oleksandr Usyk.
While Whyte being the WBC mandatory challenger ought to have been confirmation in itself that he and Fury would get it on at some point in the first half of this year, the situation has been far more complicated than that.
Fury and Whyte’s teams struggled to reach an agreement over their proposed fight, with the latter being locked in a dispute with the WBC. There was also a suggestion that Anthony Joshua could step aside from his rematch with Usyk for the right price.
That opened the door for Fury and Usyk to fight for the status of undisputed heavyweight champion. That looked like a legitimate possibility, with speculation intensifying, until now.

Fury has taken to social media, as he often does, to confirm that he will be fighting Whyte, not Usyk, which suggests that Joshua has not agreed a step aside deal and would prefer to fight the Ukrainian now.
