Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he is not happy with Romelu Lukaku’s comments to the Italian media over his situation at Chelsea.
Lukaku signed for Chelsea in the summer transfer window for a reported £97m fee. The Belgian spoke about finishing his career at Stamford Bridge and repeatedly kissed the badge after scoring in his opening appearances for the Blues.
However, an interview with Sky Italia emerged yesterday, during which Lukaku revealed his discontent with life at Chelsea and revealed his desire to move back to Inter Milan – and not at the end of his career.
As you could have predicted, Chelsea fans have been left furious by Lukaku’s comments, which clearly were not appreciated by Thomas Tuchel either. The German said at his press conference today:
“Yes, we don’t like it. It brings noise we don’t need. It is not helpful but we don’t want to make more of it than it actually is. It is very easy to take lines out of context, make headlines.

I don’t feel him unhappy, so I am surprised. We will not just read the headlines. We, here, will take time to see what’s going on. It doesn’t reflect his daily work at Cobham.
We will [discuss it]. But we will do it behind closed doors.” [Quotes via Goal reporter Nizaar Kinsella]
Chelsea fans will be hoping that Tuchel and Lukaku can discuss the matter behind the scenes and put it to bed, but regardless, this debacle raises serious questions over the striker’s long-term commitment to the club.
He may well smooth things over for now for the sake of convenience but you get the feeling that it’ll only be a matter of time before something like this happens again…
