Spurs release statement on Covid-19 lockdown rule breakers

Tottenham Hotspur has had a heavy morning in the headlines with rumours flowing that 2 of their Premier League stars have tested positive for Covid-19 just hours before kick off against Leeds United at home.

Multiple Spurs players were outed on social media after the Christmas/New Years break for throwing a party during lockdown and breaking multiple lockdown rules. Argentinian’s Giovanni Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, Erik Lamela and West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini are all pictured below together over the break with zero social distancing or visible masks.

Spurs then released a statement today condemning the players actions the Standard report:

A spokesperson for Tottenham said:

“We are extremely disappointed and strongly condemn this image showing some of our players with family and friends together at Christmas particularly as we know the sacrifices everybody around the country made to stay safe over the festive period.

“The rules are clear, there are no exceptions, and we regularly remind all our players and staff about the latest protocols and their responsibilities to adhere and set an example. The matter will be dealt with internally.”

Giovanni Lo Celso and Erik Lamela were not featured in today’s matchday squad with Reguilon being bumped down to the bench by Jose so the players are definitely being punished internally.
