As more and more clips come out online of the Chasing the Sun documentary of how the South African rugby team won the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
One clip that Three Red Kings on twitter says isn’t ‘sticking with’ is the one of the Springboks naming their team at the very last second prior to the big game ..
See some of the reaction below ..
Love this documentary but the later team sheet thing isn't sticking with me.
France knew all the players in the squad so whenever the team was named they'd just preview the data they already had on them. They preview every single possible player and combination.
It's not like… https://t.co/htPtshEcO1

I disagree. Not many would have expected the Boks to go 5/3 against France given the French pack is what it is. There was also huge debate over Pollard v Libbok to start. In both cases those decisions alter what type of game the Boks are going to play
Both can be true. France could know the data on the players, but the combinations and the numbers on the bench change the dynamic of how those players are used. That’s the uncertainty.History is written by the victors I guess.t is not the naming of the later teams sheet, remember this was governed by world rugby and the Boks asked if they can name their teams earlier, but down to different teams playing each week different waysIt’s about splitting their resources and forcing them to look for longer at all possible player and bench combinations. It 100% wil have an impact – with the level of preparation these teams do, even a slight inconvenience or level of uncertainty can mean a 1 point difference
