The Premier League are said to be uninterested in dropping the 3pm tv blackout with the Championship of similar opinion.
The blackout has been in place since the 1960s, with no league games allowed to be televised between 14:45 and 17:15 in an attempt to protect lower and non-league football attendances.
There has recently been rumours that the 60-year tradition could be coming to an end, but Premier League and Championship executives are said to not be interested in removing it, according to Martyn Ziegler.
This is mainly due to the league’s belief that “less is more” when it comes to building up hype and excitement over the bigger games that are more likely to secure the bigger TV deals.
🚨 The Premier League intends to keep the Saturday 3pm blackout when it puts its next domestic rights up for sale next year and many Championship clubs also want it to be retained. [@martynziegler]
