Premier League and EFL clubs to introduce ‘Covid clauses’ into players contracts

According to Sky Sports Premier League and EFL clubs are trying to introduce ‘Covid clauses’ into player contracts in a bid to cover themselves legally if the coronavirus pandemic doesn’t subside.

The new clauses are to be introduced into loan deals which will mean the loan can be cancelled and some fees may be reimbursed if the coronavirus pandemic leads to further interruptions in the football calendar.

Some of the clauses may result in pay cuts for new and existing players if games continue to be played behind closed doors after the end of this season.

The Premier League calendar has been hard hit with a reshuffle of fixtures after being introduced following several outbreaks throughout the league.

The BBC have reported that Tottenham Hotspur will play Fulham on Wednesday January 13th instead of Aston Villa after Villa reported a serious outbreak of Covid-19.

Fulham were originally scheduled to play Chelsea on Friday but that game has also been rescheduled and will now take place on Saturday instead.

The Fulham v Tottenham was originally scheduled to take place on December 30th but it was postponed with very short notice because of a coronavirus outbreak at Fulham.
