The 2022 World Cup has reached its culmination. 62 matches and 163 goals ends with Argentina taking on reigning World champions France in a battle to be crowned the first ever winter World Cup winners.

Ahead of Sunday’s final, the PSG pair of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have had some nice words to say about each other, despite rumours of conflict between them at their club.

Mbappe labelled Messi as the world’s best player, saying how simple it is to play with him.

It’s easy to play with Lionel Messi. He’s the best player in the world.”

In response to the praise handed to him, Messi affirmed his friendship with Mbappe saying their off-field relationship greatly helps their chemistry.

It’s been super good [their relationship]. In addition, Kylian speaks perfect Spanish and with a player like that it is easy to understand each other.

The good relationship off the field makes things easier and although it is still too early to draw conclusions, I am sure it will go well.”

There is so much at stake for the players this weekend, with Argentina aiming to win their first World Cup since 1986, while France are hoping to become the first team to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962.

The final will take place at Lusail Stadium tomorrow, with kick-off at 15:00 BST.
