During an appearance on Anything Goes With James English, Paul Gascoigne revealed how he used to torment then Nottingham Forest player Roy Keane when he played against him in the early 90s.

Gascoigne revealed that he adopted the tactic of constantly speaking to Keane in a bid to distract the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Gazza revealed that his approach had worked so well that the full-time whistle was like music to the young Cork mans ears who was glad to have the game “over with.”

During his conversation on Anything Goes With James English YouTube channel Gazza explained how he attempted wind up the fiery Keane when Spurs and Forest clashed in the 90s.

“I remember Roy Keane once, I just used to talk to him all the time, I remember going down the tunnel and I said: ‘Roy, you reckon you’re the new kid on the block? Welcome to your worst nightmare.’

“We won one-nil but he said afterwards in the papers: ‘Thank God that game is over with, I’ve never been talked to so much in my life.’

“I used to say: ‘I’m sleeping with your wife.’”

Keane moved to England in the summer of 1990 from Cork team Cobh Ramblers to Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £47,000.

Since his move the Irish man has gone on to be the most successful Irish footballer in history after a glittering career with Manchester United.

Perhaps Gazza’s lessons early in his career taught the rugged midfielder a thing or two which helped with his success later on in his career – we’ll never know.
