Worrying England stat brings cause for concern for Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2020 knockouts

England topped their Euro 2020 group after a 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic yesterday evening, but the stats weren’t all positive for Gareth Southgate’s men.

Ultimately, the only statistic that matters in football is the scoreline, with last night’s one finishing in England’s favour.

The three points for Gareth Southgate’s men saw them finish top of their group and progress to the knockout stages of Euro 2020, where they will face France, Germany or Portugal.

With tougher tests to come, Southgate will be well aware that major improvement is necessary if England are going to have any chance of going further in the tournament.

This stat in particular, shared by OptaJoe, is cause for concern for the Three Lions.

Granted, Phil Foden and Mason Mount were not involved, but England had more than enough talent on the field of play to create chances, but they were unable to do so.

Southgate seems unwilling to sacrifice one of his holding midfielders, but England are suffering in the attacking department as a result. Something’s got to give…
