Brazilian striker Jo hit with fine and warning by Corinthians for extremely unusual reason

Corinthians striker Jo has been hit with a fine after wearing green boots during a 0-0 draw to Bahia, report Reuters.

Jo, who is best known for his time with Manchester City and Everton, currently plays his football in his native Brazil with Corinthians, who aren’t best pleased with him at current.

While it’s not uncommon for players to be hit with fines, whether it be as a result of turning up late for training or being sent off in a match, penalisations are not usually boot related.

Yet, as reported by Reuters, Jo has been punished by Corinthians for wearing green boots, the colour associated with their bitter rivals Palmeiras.

The report notes that Jo has been fined and warned by his employers, while the former Brazil international has been forced to apologise for the mistake that he made.

This is one of the more bonkers stories you’ll read today, but it’s testament to the passion for football and rivalry in South American countries like Brazil.
