Conor McGregor has dropped out of the UFC rankings 😲

Conor McGregor has dropped out of the UFC lightweight rankings after a sustained absence from the sport.

For the first time in eight years, the ‘Notorious’ is no longer a ranked UFC fighter. He was most recently sitting 14th on the list of lightweights but has now disappeared from the UFC’s official rankings.

McGregor broke his leg in a freak accident against Dustin Poirier 18 months ago and has yet to return to the octagon. The former lightweight champion has been a prominent figure in the UFC since winning his debut in 2014 against Diego Brandao.

He holds a 10-4 record in the UFC, losing to Nate Diaz, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier twice.

The Irishman has been hinting at a return to the organisation in 2014 but he may have outgrown the lightweight division. In his time away from the sport, he has put on a substantial amount of weight, fuelling rumours that he could be using steroids to improve his physical stature.

McGregor announced that he would be making a return to the octagon in 2023 and claimed that he wanted to become a three-weight world champion. It seems that his eyes are fixed on the welterweight division and its champion, Leon Edwards.

This isn’t the first time that the 34-year-old has hinted at a return, and it won’t be the last. A lot has changed since he’s been away. Younger promising fighters have emerged, and the sport has moved on.

Do you think he will return and if so, what weight class will he fight at?
