According to Fabrizio Romano, two clubs tried to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea last summer. Both saw their interest knocked back.
Kante has been a key figure for the Blues throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, but struggled to maintain his fitness levels last campaign, which is out of character for the Frenchman.

The midfielder is ordinarily ever-present for Chelsea, but spent considerable periods on the sidelines with injury problems last season. It seems as though two teams tried their luck in a bid to free him from his temporary misery.
Though Fabrizio Romano stops short of naming the sides that were interested in poaching Kante from Chelsea, he does note that they were prepared to pay as much as €50M to get the deal done.
N’Golo Kanté is not just the man of the match, again. He’s a special guy and special player. Chelsea board has ‘protected’ him last summer: two clubs were set to open talks to sign Kanté offering more than €50m, Chelsea answer has always been ‘NO’. 🔵🚫 #CFC #UCL

Having watched Kante in action for Chelsea against Real Madrid yesterday evening, anything less than €100M would have to be considered a steal. He truly is one of a kind.
