“They’ve embarrassed themselves,” said Jamie Carragher, while discussing Roman Abramovich passing over the reins at Stamford Bridge.
Abramovich released a statement on Saturday evening revealing that he had handed over stewardship of his football club to the “trustees of Chelsea’s charitable foundation.”
When you consider the backgrounds of those trustees, it doesn’t take an idiot to decipher that they will not be in charge of the day-to-day running of one of Europe’s biggest football clubs.
It’s clear to see that Abramovich, whatever he says publicly, will not be taking a backwards step and is merely attempting to protect Chelsea’s reputation – or rather, the value of one of his business assets.

Considering how transparent his statement was, and how there was a notable lack of condemnation of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, it hasn’t really reflected well on Abramovich or Chelsea.
Jamie Carragher is not impressed. He, speaking ahead of today’s Carabao Cup final, insisted that Chelsea had embarrassed themselves with their recent conduct. What do you think?
