Jamie Carragher has taken aim at Rio Ferdinand after Manchester United secured victory in Michael Carrick’s first game in charge.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having been dismissed following the Red Devils’ 4-1 defeat at Watford, Carrick was appointed as interim manager.
The former United midfielder took charge of his first game as United headed to Villarreal, winning 2-0 after a superb second-half performance.
There are obvious parallels to be drawn to Solskjaer’s own time in charge as Man United interim boss, during which Rio Ferdinand urged the club to give him a permanent contract.
Yessss Ole is officially at The Wheel… Signed, Sealed, Delivered! Manager of @ManUtd! 🙌🏽 I hope my Thank You is in post Ole 🤣📝❤️ #MUFC #Ole pic.twitter.com/lUUel4f6zw

A couple of years down the line and Ferdinand urged Solskjaer to stand aside after a string of disappointing results. Life comes at you fast, doesn’t it?
Carragher, being the devoted Liverpool fan and Man United hater that he is, couldn’t resist but to take a cheeky dig at Rio after last night’s game.
Man Utd might not thank me, but get the contract out put it on the table & let him sign it, let him right whatever numbers he wants, let him sign the contract. Carrick’s at the wheel man! #VILMUN @ChampionsLeague

Man United fans will be hoping that the club have learnt their lesson and will be looking to appoint someone with some genuine managerial credentials…
