Canelo Alvarez will move up to cruiserweight and fight to become a FIVE-WEIGHT world champion, his trainer has confirmed.
Canelo, who is regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet right now, has already held world titles in four weight classes.
On November 6th, the Mexican defeated Caleb Plant to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world.
His C.V is getting more and more impressive with every fight, and he is showing absolutely no intention of slowing down.
Canelo has had his request to move up to cruiserweight and challenge Ilunga Makabu approved by the WBC.
‼️ Canelo Alvarez’s trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso has announced at the WBC convention that Canelo wants to move up to CRUISERWEIGHT and challenge WBC champion Ilunga Makabu in his next fight in May. The WBC have approved this, so Canelo will fight to become a five-weight champion.

As Canelo fights to become a five-weight world champion, he’ll be taking on an opponent that fights at almost 50lbs heavier than the 154lbs he fought at while winning his first world title at light-middleweight in 2011.
His ambition and fearlessness are unrivalled in the sport. Whether a cruiserweight tussle with Makabu will be a step too far remains to be seen, but only a fool would bet against Canelo in his current form.
