Brendan Rodgers’ 12-word response when quizzed over the Manchester United job

Brendan Rodgers has been heavily linked with the Manchester United job, but a comment of his from 2015 suggests he might NOT be the man to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Our friends at CaughtOffside reported a few days back that Rodgers had come to a verbal agreement with Man United over succeeding Solskjaer. Odds were subsequently slashed with other media publications picking up on the news.

The major sticking point appears to be over Rodgers’ unwillingness to take charge mid-season, as well as Man United dragging their heels over sacking Solskjaer. Nevertheless, there’s a good chance of this materialising at some point.

If it were to happen, it’d go against what Rodgers himself said after he was dismissed by Liverpool back in 2015. Quoted by the Daily Star, he said, “When you manage Liverpool, you know the Manchester United job is gone.”

It’s not entirely clear whether he was suggesting that he’d never take the job or he assumed that he’d never be offered it, but either way, it doesn’t appear to have actually been the case in reality…
