Manchester City have taken the lead over Newcastle United at the Etihad through Raheem Sterling.
City suffered heartbreak midweek after Real Madrid completed a dramatic comeback over the English champions, who looked to be on a collision course with rivals Liverpool in the Champions League final.
After Liverpool dropped points to Tottenham yesterday, City had to ensure that they came correct for their fixture this afternoon, even if they were still reeling from the defeat to Los Blancos.
