Chelsea were defeated 4-0 by Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League final last night, and within a minute it was clear that lady luck was not in their corner.
Emma Hayes’ Blues have enjoyed a quite remarkable season, with the Women’s Champions League final the grand finale, one which could have seen all of their wildest dreams come true.
However, when you find yourself 1-0 down within 33 seconds, you probably get the impression that it’s not going to be your day.

Especially when you concede an own goal as bizarre, ridiculous, and downright unfortunate as this one.

Having conceded the goal in freak circumstances, Chelsea fell apart, going 4-0 down by half-time and ultimately being unable to overturn the deficit.
Hayes and the Chelsea Women squad can keep their heads held high after what has been the best season in the existence of the club’s female side.
Of course, though, this one’s going to hurt for a while, especially with the capitulation being sparked by such a nonsense goal.
