Tyson Fury has lost a fight, but the defeat hasn’t come in the boxing ring.

The two-time heavyweight boxing champion has lost his bid to take over his local football club Morecambe.

This story goes all the way back to October when Fury told Jim White and Simon Jordan on Talksport that he considering putting himself in the running for the club’s ownership.

β€œI’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they’re in League One at the moment. So I was thinking I invest X amount of millions in them.

β€œI’ve been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club. I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym. So, who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner.”

Sadly, this doesn’t look like it is going to come to fruition, but there’s no way Fury would have predicted what was to come four months on from his admission.

This morning it was revealed that Morecambe are in the process of making 20-year old Sarbjot Johal, owner of investment company Sarb Capital, their owner which would make him the youngest in English football.

Morecambe chairman Graham Howse has said in a statement: β€œIt is fair to say the sale process hasn’t progressed as quickly as we all would have liked – that said, my understanding is that exciting times are ahead both on and off the pitch.

β€œSarbjot Johal is eager to start the project to take the Club on to a new level, subject to satisfactorily navigating the EFL Owners and Directors’ test.”

It’s certainly not the news Fury will have wanted to hear, but The Gypsy King will now focus on his preparations for his fight against Oleksandr Usyk on April 29th.
