The 32 year old has announced that he will leave Galway and concentrate on club hurling, one of the greatest hurlers to ever play the game. Joe Canning has the most scores in Championship history, passing out Kilenny’s Henry Shefflin last weekend against Waterford in the qualifiers. What a legacy he will leave the game of hurling and his not finished yet, with Canning hopefully going to play many more years with his club Portumna GAA in Galway.

Will Canning actually retire you wonder or would he be tempted to pull on the boots again next year when Championship comes around? Joe Canning has being playing senior hurling for 17 years and has had many the injury, he has given absolutely everything for the Galway team and thank God he got that all important All-Ireland medal in 2017 we wish him all the best in the next chapter in his career. In 100 years time Canning will still be talked about and his hurling legacy.
