Spending in the 2021 January transfer window fell by half with only La Liga falling lower

According to a KPMG study spending in the January transfer window fell by half across Europe’s major leagues with La Liga recording a whopping 70% drop.

The Covid-19 has hit the entire planet hard and football is no exception and due to financial woes because of the pandemic clubs have had to rethink their approach to signing new players.

According to the study Spanish clubs in La Liga have been the hardest hit from all the top leagues as there was a recorded 70% drop off in spending in January 2021.

It’s not just Spanish teams that are suffering though as the Financial Times reported that Inter Milan are in serious financial problems due to the impact of Covid-19 also.

According to the Financial Times, the club needs and investment of £142 million in order to take the pressure off the club due to the the global pandemic.

Despite the pandemic there was only a small drop off in loan deals and moves for free transfers.
