Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, former Manchester United defender and captain Rio Ferdinand said that he thinks on loan Red Devil Jesse Lingard should ‘close the chapter’ on his United career.
Speaking on his show Ferdinand said: ‘I spoke before about this and said I thought Jesse should close a chapter on Man United because he hasn’t been a part of the squad, he hasn’t been a part of the team for ages,’
You see the smile on his face now, the way he’s playing football, the confidence he seems to have.
‘There’s a glint in his eye again that I haven’t seen for two years. How can he want to go back to being a bit-part player after tasting this? He’s fitted in straight away and I can’t see him wanting to go back to Man United where he’s going to have to play second fiddle to people.
‘Because he will, he’ll have to play second fiddle to Bruno Fernandes in that position [in the hole], he’ll have to play second fiddle to anyone playing up front or wide.
‘I’m not saying that he’s not good enough, I’m saying that’s what I’ve been shown from the selections of the team and the squads that have been picked. So, going off that, I would move, I would go on.’
The former England internationals suggestion isn’t too harsh as Lingard has proven there is still something he can contribute but Manchester United don’t seem to want his services.
Should Lingard decided to move permanently to the Hammers he may hit a roadblock after United refused to add a permanent transfer clause in Lingard’s loan contract.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, if they want to make Lingard a permanent fixture at the club he may cost them a few extra quid because the clubs will have to negotiate and United are likely to bump up his price if Lingard’s great form continues.
Since joining West Ham on a six month loan deal the United loanee has scored three times in his four Premier League appearances under ex-boss David Moyes.
Lingard has really hit the ground running and club captain Declan Rice has said that having a ‘top, top player’ like the Manchester United loanee has made a big difference at the club.
