Newcastle to sign promising young Chelsea defender

The Athletic are reporting that one of Frank Lampard’s defenders in on his way to St. James Park. It was reported in recent days that Marcelo Bielsa was going to win the race to get Fikayo Tomori’s signature but all that has changed with Bielsa stating he has ‘no plans’ to upgrade his defence.

Steve Bruce on the other hand is looking to bolster the backline as he made contact with Manchester United over the loaning of unwanted English defender Phil Jones according to 90min. Reportedly now that he has seen that Tomori is up for sale, Bruce wants to get the 23 year old up to Newcastle so he can launch the Magpies up the Premier League table. Fikayo has only played 44 minutes of Premier League football this season so it is understandable for him to be eager to leave Stamford Bridge.

According to Transfermarkt Tomori has been with Chelsea since 2005 and has gone out on loan to numerous clubs with Derby and Hull City being the most recent, he is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria at international level and if given the chance to prove himself with regular play time I’m sure both sides will be fighting to have him representing them.
