Referee Brian Gavin wins appeal against ban

GAA referee Brian Gavin has successfully appealed a one-month ban for comments directed at officials during a club game.

The ban had been proposed for Gavin by the Offaly County Board Competitions Control Committee – following an incident at the Offaly JFC quarter-final between Kilclonfert and Clara late last month.

Kilclonfert won the match and advanced to the semi-final and Gavin, who is chairman of Clara GAA, was reported by referee Pauric Pierce for comments he made during the game.

Gavin did not accept the sanction and requested an appeal in front of the Hearings committee.

The hearing was brought forward to last night at the request of the GAA and the official was successful in his appeal.

Gavin is scheduled to officiate in Croke Park on Sunday – at the All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Kilkenny and Waterford.
